SCC Arbitration Institute

Meet the newest members of the SCC legal team

This month, we are delighted to welcome Adéle Franck and Alice Forssell to the SCC legal team. Adéle joins as Legal Counsel in Division 3, whilst Alice takes on the role of Senior Legal Counsel. We spoke with both Adéle and Alice to learn more about their backgrounds and what they bring to the team.

Why did you decide to join the SCC?

Adéle: When the opportunity to join the SCC for a secondment came, it was an easy decision for me to jump at the chance to gain insight into the SCC, as I otherwise only see the SCC Arbitration Institute from a counsel’s perspective.

Alice: Having spent roughly equal time working at a law firm and in the courts, the SCC role felt like the best of both worlds. I’ve always been intrigued by the SCC, so when I spotted the job ad, it was an easy decision to apply straight away.

Tell us about your legal background.

Adéle: I have an LL.M. from Stockholm university. After my studies I joined Cirio law firm, where I had also worked as a student employee, in the dispute resolution group. I have worked mainly with litigation, arbitration and data privacy.

Alice: I graduated from Lund University in January 2020 and am currently on leave from my training to become a judge (Sw. domarutbildningen) at the Svea Court of Appeal. Before that, I worked at a law firm, mostly with dispute resolution but also with real estate law. Once my time at the SCC wraps up, I’ll hopefully be heading back to start my role as a junior judge at one of the district courts.

Alice, as Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll be stepping into the role of Deputy Secretary General Madeleine Thörn during her maternity leave. What aspects of this position are you most looking forward to?

The mix is what excites me most – getting to combine in-house counsel work with dispute resolution, all whilst being part of the dynamic and inspiring environment here at the SCC. I’m also really looking forward to getting to know the wonderful team at the SCC better.

Adéle, you’ll be taking care of Division 3 as Legal Counsel during Lina Krait’s maternity leave. What elements of this role excite you most?

I am most excited to see the diversity of cases administered by the SCC, as well as gain insights in the variety of decisions and questions that may arise during the course of arbitration.

Outside the legal world, do you have any hidden talents or favourite pastimes that might surprise us?

Adéle: I am not sure this would surprise anyone, but in my spare time I really enjoy doing puzzles as well as read (non-legal) books – everything from the classics and dystopias to fantasy.

Alice: I’ve recently rediscovered my love for horses and now spend several hours a week at the stables. And to actually get there, I finally got my driving license – better late than never!
