SCC & YAS: Administrative secretary workshop

Join us for an interactive SCC/YAS workshop hosted at Delphi, bringing together local and international experts to explore the evolving role of administrative secretaries in international arbitration.

Through a panel discussion with leading practitioners and a hands on skills workshop, participants will gain insight into permissible tasks under SCC and ICC Rules, the career value of secretary experience, and practical techniques for effectively supporting arbitral tribunals. The session concludes with a networking reception.

Agenda:

15:00 – 15:15 – Welcome & Introduction (Marcus Nyberg, Delphi)
Opening remarks, introductions, and overview of the session’s objectives, including the evolving role of administrative secretaries in international arbitration.

15:15 – 16:00 – Panel Discussion
Experienced arbitrators and counsel discuss the practical realities of working with administrative secretaries, including expectations, boundaries, and career development. Reference to Ole Jensen’s book and recent SCC and ICC rules and guidance.

Key questions addressed:

  • What is permissible for an administrative secretary under SCC and ICC Rules?
  • How does acting as an administrative secretary help one’s career or lead to appointments as arbitrator?
  • How To what extent can we increase the opportunities for administrative secretaries?

16:10 – 17:20 – Workshop: Supporting the Tribunal – Practical Skills for Administrative Secretaries
Interactive session on the practical and ethical dimensions of the secretary’s role, with a focus on the SCC and ICC Rules.

The workshop reinforces understanding of what is permissible and explores how the administrative secretary role can be a stepping stone in a career in arbitration.

17:20 – 17:30 – Closing Remarks
Summary of key insights from the panel and workshop.

17:30 – 18:30 – Mingle Reception
Informal networking opportunity for participants to continue discussions and share experiences.
