Resolve contractual disputes out of court.

At the SCC, we offer arbitration, expedited arbitration, mediation and express proceedings to Swedish and international companies who want to resolve their contractual disputes outside of a public courtroom. Our goal is to make international trade run efficiently – because we are convinced that it provides opportunities for sustainable social development and beneficial cooperation between nations.

Our history

The SCC has always been independent. We were founded in 1917 as an independent entity within the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and have worked without commercial or political interests ever since. This forms a key part of our history, but it is also important as we look to the future. 

Other services

At the SCC, you can not only resolve your disputes through arbitrations, mediations, and SCC Express, but we also offer a number of other services that contribute to the business community. Many of these can be utilised in ad hoc arbitrations or arbitrations conducted at other arbitration institutes.

Our 3 week dispute resolution service is now available in Swedish

april 29, 2024 Not all disputes need to endure lengthy proceedings. Disputes of lesser complexity can be easily resolved within three weeks and at a fixed price with the SCC Express Rules. We have translated the rules into Swedish to make them even more accessible for Swedish businesses.

The SCC provides a neutral forum and an impartial process for the resolution of commercial disputes worldwide. Every year, we register almost 200 cases with a total value of around €2 billion. 

SCC’s next sensation now launched

Appointment of arbitrators and challenge to arbitrators in ad hoc arbitration

Ad hoc arbitration is a form of dispute resolution where the parties manage the arbitration process themselves, without the administration or procedural framework of an arbitral institution. However, certain situations may arise in ad hoc arbitrations where support is needed. For example: The parties may have difficulties in appointing arbitrators. A party may question an arbitrator’s impartiality. The SCC Arbitration Institute assists with these issues to ensure efficient and fair resolution of ad hoc arbitrations.

Hearings

Hearings are an important part of any arbitral proceeding. Though parties may agree to decide their dispute on documents only, the majority of cases administered under the SCC Rules include hearings conducted in person. The participation of witnesses and experts by videolink/conference is also possible subject to permission of the arbitral tribunal. Depending on the complexity of the case, hearings may vary in length, from one day to a week, or even longer.

The arbitration/mediation costs are fixed by the SCC in accordance with the schedule of costs attached to the SCC set of rules.

Dispute resolution under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules 

The SCC offers services for handling disputes under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. For example, the SCC may appoint arbitrators, decide on challenge to arbitrators or decide and administer the costs of the proceedings. 

Mediation

Mediation is a flexible and cost-effective form of dispute resolution. In mediation, the parties are assisted by an independent third party to resolve their dispute in a well considered and legally sound way. 

SCC Express

Drafting contracts is an important part of business relationships, and choosing the right dispute resolution method in the contract is both strategically and financially smart. In some situations, it is also particularly important to be able to predict both cost and time. That's why we offer SCC Express Dispute Assessment, a dispute resolution service where a legal expert assesses the dispute within three weeks at a fixed price.

Expedited arbitration

For disputes of a simpler nature.

For less complex agreements and disputes, the SCC offers expedited arbitration. This is an efficient and cost-efficient model that is faster than traditional arbitration.

Arbitration

Arbitration under the SCC rules is a quick and effective method of settling disputes out of court. The dispute is decided by impartial and expert arbitrators and the process is confidential. SCC arbitration results in an award that cannot be appealed and is enforceable in more than 160 countries.

Protracted disputes threaten public procurement contracts – SEK 900 billion at stake every year

oktober 21, 2024 The total value of public procurement in Sweden is approximately SEK 900 billion per year. When public procurement disputes arise, large sums of money are at stake. A new report from the SCC Arbitration Institute shows that these disputes can be resolved on average almost a year faster through arbitration than in court. Improving time efficiency is crucial to ensure that critical public investments are not delayed.
