MUTE OFF Thursdays: arbitration costs

MUTE OFF Thursdays is a virtual networking and knowledge-exchange for women in arbitration.

Meet the SCC Madeleine

MUTE OFF Thursdays’ goal is to promote women in arbitration. That goal is achieved by: (i) advancing knowledge through experience-based insights that women might not otherwise be able to access; (ii) increasing women’s exposure to public discussions, which increases women’s self-confidence and performance; and (iii) increasing visibility of the women within the group, therefore overcoming the familiarity bias in arbitral appointments.

Madeleine Thörn, Deputy Secretary General, will visit and speak on arbitration costs on 16 January.

When: 16 January 2025
Where: Online

Behind the Fees: Understanding the Cost of Arbitration

Join us for a thought-provoking event where we dive into one of the most complex and often-debated aspects of arbitration—costs. Titled Behind the Fees: Understanding the Cost of Arbitration, SCC Deputy Secretary General Madeleine Thörn will provide an in-depth exploration into the financial and practical factors influencing arbitration proceedings.

Together, we’ll unravel questions around the true cost of arbitration, examining key factors like the duration of cases, the apportionment of costs, and the diversity of arbitrators. The event will feature insights from the latest SCC report, Costs of Arbitration and Apportionment of Costs under the SCC Rules, offering new data and perspectives. We'll look at the cost allocation between parties, the reasoning behind common cost-sharing practices, and the role diversity plays in arbitrator appointments and fees.

Don't miss this chance to go behind the fees and build a clearer picture of the true economics of arbitration!
